Senator Bennet Continues State Education Tour

Colorado Senator Michael Bennet brought his school tour to Northern Colorado today with a visit to Harris Bilingual Immersion School in Ft. Collins. Bennet is gathering input on ways to overhaul the No Child Left Behind Act that sets national education standards. He says a “one size fits all” approach doesn’t work.

“What I’d like to see and what most people I’ve talked to in the schools would like to see is much more flexibility at the local level and a more rational system of accountability at the federal level which is what we are going to work toward,” says Bennet.

The former Denver Public Schools Superintendent says he chose Harris because they teach English to Spanish speaking students and Spanish to their English speaking students. He’s conducted similar tours in Grand Junction and Colorado Springs noting that some of the best ideas for reform come from outside of Washington D.C.
