Breathtaking Nerdiness: Ferris At Wrigley Field

Ferris Bueller's Day Offis a classic, in my world, anyway. From intoning "Frye... Frye..." when anything close to attendance is called to jumping up and hollering "Sloane!" when I spot Mia Sara in a film, there's always a good reason to take it back to that crazy day in Chicago. So when I call the following a feat of breathtaking nerdiness, I mean it with absolute affection.

Larry Granillo at Baseball Prospectus has figured out what he believes is the exact game Ferris, Sloane and Cameron attended at Wrigley Field. In the movie, we see them sitting by the foul pole, and hear a little play-by-play. Based on what he can see of the matchup between the Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves, Granillo concludes,

Ferris Bueller and his pals were at the June 5, 1985, tilt between the Cubs and the Braves. The foul ball that Ferris caught was hit by Atlanta rightfielder Claudell Washington (#15) in the top of the 11th inning.

There's great detail in Granillo's piece, " Wezen-Ball: Ferris Bueller's Day Off At Wrigley Field." And for all you Ferris enthusiasts, Granillo's got bad news: Any memorabilia signed by the complete cast should now include baseball players Claudell Washington, Paul Zuvella and Lee Smith!
