In downtown Denver this morning, authorities have mostly dismantled a tent city that had sprung up in Civic Center Park as part of the nationwide anti-Wall Street protests. The action followed an at times tense stand off between police and protesters that went through the early morning hours.As the first light of dawn hit, dozens of protesters continued to shout chants like "this is what a police state looks like" at police in riot gear.
Protester Dan Thornton drove down from Boulder. He was holding a sign that read "Where’s the outrage?"
"I have no faith any longer in this two-party system that basically just tears each other down," Thornton said. "It’s a constant re-election cycle, it doesn’t matter about making any real progress, it’s just a matter of tearing each other down."
Many protesters and observers, as well as the Colorado State Patrol said things have been relatively peaceful.
The biggest headache now seems to be rush hour traffic snarls as a couple of major arteries in and out of downtown are closed.
