Coronavirus Across America: Worship In A Time Of Pestilence

Worshippers drink from the same cup at Communion. Some synagogues require a gathering of 10 people before a service can take place. And Muslims usually prostrate themselves shoulder-to-shoulder during Friday prayers.

And don’t even start about social distancing in pews.

Faith leaders around the world are scrambling to adapt religious ceremonies and rituals in a time of social distancing. But some are finding only limited guidance about religious practice in a time of pandemic.

In this installment of 1A Across America, we ask what congregations are doing at a time when coming together is a health hazard. How are religious organizations helping with emergency response when mobilizing volunteers might do more harm than good?
