While coronavirus continues to spread, state and local officials all around the country have ordered citizens to stay at home. In that time, many Americans have taken to picking up new hobbies or finally reading that old book they said they would.

But if you don’t feel like dusting off “War And Peace” or “Love in the Time of Cholera,” you can pick up the aptly-named “It’s Not All Downhill From Here” by novelist Terry McMillan.

McMillan is the bestselling author of “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” and “Waiting to Exhale.” Her novels tell the deeply personal stories of Black women as they deal with love, friendship, and life.

Since breaking out in the 90’s, McMillan’s novels have captivated readers everywhere. They have also been adapted into popular films starring Angela Bassett and Whitney Houston.

Her latest work is about a woman named Loretha and her close circle of friends, as she celebrates her 68th birthday. You can read an excerpt below.
