5:30 p.m. - Gov. Jared Polis is urging residents to celebrate Thanksgiving with just the people in their own homes unless families are able to quarantine for two weeks before getting together for a gathering.
He used a jarring analogy Friday to warn residents about the dangers of getting together for the holiday without taking precautions.
“The more family members that make that decision to self quarantine, the more likely it is that you’re not bringing a loaded pistol for grandma’s head,” Polis said at a news conference. “That’s where we are.”
Polis made the remarks after the state saw a new record of 6,439 COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period.
“These are our darkest days as a nation, these are our darkest days as a state,” he said.
He repeated his calls for residents to cancel social plans and continue wearing masks while in public.
11:30 a.m. - On Thursday, Boulder County announced new COVID-19 restrictions to stop the spread of the virus. The public health order limits the capacity of indoor events to 25 people, limits indoor dining to one household and strongly recommends businesses have their employees start or continue working from home. The new restrictions also prohibit spectators at professional, adult and high school sporting events.
Boulder County is currently under Safer at Home Level Orange, which limits restaurant capacity to 25% or 50 people, whichever is fewer.

Nov. 9, 2020 Updates
The first two COVID-19 testing kiosks opened this week.

The Greeley kiosk offers free, walk-up testing Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Test results are available within 48 hours. The state plans to open eight additional testing kiosks at sites around Colorado in the coming weeks.
The state lists other community COVID-19 testing sites throughout Colorado on its website.

Nov. 5, 2020 Updates
Colorado is now seeing its highest daily coronavirus case counts and hospitalization rate since the start of the pandemic.
Almost 900 people were in hospitals with COVID-19 on Thursday afternoon, the state’s highest count ever. State health officials say Colorado is also projected to run out of ICU capacity at hospitals in mid-December if cases continue to surge.
But Gov. Jared Polis said Thursday he is currently not considering a new statewide stay-at-home order. Instead, he is urging residents to do three things this month: wear masks, stay six feet apart and only visit with members of their own households.
“We need to renew our commitment and resolve. Now. To get through one of the darkest periods in the history of our state, and prevent unnecessary loss of life,” he said.
The governor compared his message to an intervention.
“Colorado, I love you. This is an intervention,” Polis said. “Cancel your social plans the next few weeks. Avoid interacting with others. Wear a mask. Keep your distance. Let’s get through this.”
New Community COVID-19 Testing Sites
As coronavirus cases continue to rise in Colorado, demand for testing has sky-rocketed. In response, counties have started opening more community testing sites for free, drive-through COVID-19 testing.
Denver
The city of Denver opened a new community testing site this week at the Denver Human Services Building. There are now four community testing sites in Denver:
- Denver Human Services Building - 3815 Steele St, Denver, CO 80205
- Paco Sanchez Park - 1290 Knox Ct, Denver, CO 80219
- Green Valley Ranch Pool - 4455 Jebel St, Denver, CO 80249
- Clinica Tepeyec - Globeville Community Church, 5039 Lincoln St, Denver, CO 80216 (Thursdays)
To help the city manage high demand at community testing sites, people with health insurance are being asked to see their primary care physician for testing.
Arapahoe County
A new community testing site opened in Centennial on Monday.

The testing site will be open for all, regardless of insurance status, seven days a week, from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m.
Summit County
Summit County also opened a new community testing site this week in Silverthorne.
