The Kites in the Park festival celebrates the art of making - and flying - kites.

This weekend, you can go fly a kite - literally. There’s a festival in Fort Collins dedicated to the art of making - and flying - kites. Looking for a slightly more high-tech version of fun? How about a convention dedicated to vintage video games?

Yes, in this comparison Ms. Pac-Man on an Atari 2600 could be considered “high-tech.” Relatively speaking, anyway.

This annual Fort Collins Kites in the Park Festival celebrates professional and amateur kite enthusiasts. No kite? No problem. Make your own at the kite-making station. In 2015, more than 8,000 people participated. 2016 will again feature kites that do battle as well ballet. Free parking will be offered at Hughes Stadium along with a shuttle to the park.

Kites in the Park, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 15, 2016, Spring Canyon Park, Fort Collins. Free.

‘The Scarlet Letter,’ 7:30 p.m. May 13 and 2 p.m. May 15, 2016, Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Denver. $20-$160.

Whether you played games on an Atari 2600 or a PlayStation, you can celebrate vintage video games at VinCon in Loveland. The convention will feature tournaments, a game and equipment swap meet, and - music to any video game fan’s ears - free-to-play games. No quarters needed.

VinCon Vintage Video Game Convention, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 14 and 12 to 7 p.m. May 15, 2016, The Ranch Complex, Loveland.  $10-$15.
