New Tokyo-DIA Flight A Dream(liner) Come True For Denver

The new Denver/Tokyo route will use Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
The new Denver/Tokyo route will use Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

In a press release Tuesday afternoon, United Airlines announced it will begin daily non-stop trans-Pacific flights from Tokyo’s Narita International Airport to Denver.

Beginning March 31st of next year, United says Denver passengers can depart from DIA on a new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The 12 hour flight will depart each day at 11:55am and arrive at 3:00pm the following day.

Since taking office last year, Denver mayor Michael Hancock has made securing a flight to Tokyo a key goal of his administration.

Hancock says the economic benefit of a new trans-Pacific route will generate more than $130 million in economic benefits to Colorado. “Together with many of our business and civic partners, we have worked for nearly a decade to secure this flight. Thank you to United Airlines for their commitment to the Denver market and DIA."

United’s President and CEO Jeff Smisek says the cooperation between city and airport officials helped secure the new route.

"I want to recognize the efforts of Mayor Hancock, Kim Day, Manager of Aviation, and her team at Denver International Airport, and the business and civic leaders in Denver who have worked together to bring this great new international destination to our customers in Denver."

The flight will be the city’s first non-stop service to Asia.

According to United.com $980 can buy you an economy ticket on the new Denver/Tokyo flight. If you really want to fly in style, a United BusinessFirst ticket will set you back a mere $9,098.

The new Boeing 787 flying to Tokyo will have 289 seats, with 36 in BusinessFirst and 183 in United Economy. The company says the 787’s will maximize fuel efficiency and provide a new level of passenger comfort. You can build your own “Dreamliner” here.
