High web site traffic and computer glitches are forcing officials to extend the deadline for Colorado Gives Day until mid-day tomorrow.
The second annual event connects Colorado donors with more than 900 local nonprofits. Last year the event’s organizing agency, Community First Foundation, reported that the event exceeded expectations and brought in more than $8 million.
On Tuesday the donations started coming in, with as much as $4 million received by mid day. But the contributions were slowed down by web site glitches.
Jeannine Truswell, executive director of the United Way of Weld County, says her organization received several phone calls—including one from a major donor who couldn’t get through.
“They were in a work situation and needed to get to something very important and they were having trouble,” she says. “So they called our staff to see if we could help out.”
Other nonprofits like Food Bank of the Rockies and New Era Colorado scrambled on Tuesday to take donations. The web site,www.cogivesday.org, will extend Colorado Gives Day until 12 o’clock on Wednesday.
