Cat Conventions Are A Thing — And There's One In Denver

While Paxton, the cat of KUNC's Kyra Buckley pictured above, is not on the schedule for this weekend's Snowcats Cat Convention in Denver, internet sensations like Lil' Bub will be hosting meet and greets.

If you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to connect with other Colorado cat lovers, an event in Denver this weekend has got you covered.

The inaugural Snowcats Cat Convention opens its doors Saturday at the Expo Center.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” says founder Brandon Zavala, who also owns the company Apollo Peak, known for its Pinot Meow “wine” for cats (note: not actual wine).

Inspired by other cat conventions around the country, Zavala put up his own money to get the Snowcats convention off the ground. He says the response has been overwhelming and within a month of launching the website, the event is already self-sustaining. Next up, Zavala says he wants to focus on raising funds for cat-related nonprofits.

“Ultimately I want this convention to be a massive adoption event,” says Zavala.

To get the ball rolling, this year’s event will have a cat café with adoptable pets.

Dozen of vendors and organizations will also set up at the Expo Center, and the convention boasts live music, a bar with cat themed drinks like a “meow-mosa,” and meet and greets with feline celebrities, like internet sensation Lil’ Bub.
