Metro State University caused a furor among opponents and some lawmakers with the announcement of their new tuition policy for illegal immigrants this summer. Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports on the policy now that classes are back in session.

Now known as Metro State University, rather than Metro State College, the University approved the new tuition rate June 7th. The move made the school the first Colorado institution to offer such a rate and followed the failure of a bill that would have set such a tuition rate among all Colorado state higher ed schools.
As Bente Birkeland reported in June, State Lawmakers grilled Metro officials on the tuition rate. The Attorney General filed an opinion that the new tuition rate is unlawful. However, as Dr. Luis Torres the Deputy Provost says in Al Jazeera's report, the school feels that they are on solid legal ground.
Several states are confronting this issue now that the President's Deferred Action policy on immigration is in place.
