CSU Planning For Future Without State Funding

Colorado State University

Colorado State University President Tony Frank is warning of a future without state funding for higher education within 10 years if Colorado doesn't change the way it manages its resources.

During his annual fall address on Thursday, Frank said that CSU has begun planning for that possibility.

"We’ve cut our expenses. We’ve balanced our budget. We’ve strengthened our reserves. And we are proud that we educate a student today, inflation adjusted, for the same amount we did twenty years ago even though we worry that twenty years ago tuition supported only a third of that cost where as today it’s approaching 75%."

Frank, who is serving his fourth year as CSU’s president, says he is optimistic that funding for higher education in Colorado may increase next year. Meanwhile, CSU this year welcomed its largest entering freshman class in the school’s history.
