Heavy rains in northern Colorado are reportedly creating small mudslides on the road that runs through the Poudre Canyon.
Transportation officials Wednesday are urging drivers to use caution and to check conditions before traveling on State Highway 14 through areas burned by last summer’s High Park Fire.
"Because of the wildfires there is a higher risk for flooding, for washouts, for small rocks, fallen trees, etc," says CDOT spokeswoman Amy Ford. "Crews have been working very hard to make sure we stabilize those areas as much as we possibly can. We’ve had advanced rockfall mitigation efforts in that area, and actually in the Waldo Canyon area as well."
Ford says drivers can report debris or damage to the Colorado state patrol dispatch at 303-239-4501.
Wednesday morning a rock slide in western Colorado forced the closure of Interstate 70 in both directions just east of Palisade. Another slide closed one lane of Colorado 82 between Aspen and Independence Pass but caused no injuries.
