Colorado Broadcasters Association Recognizes KUNC News Staff

Colorado Broadcasters Association

The KUNC Newsroom was recognized with two Major Market first-place and two second place awards for 2010 by the Colorado Broadcasters Association at their annual Awards of Excellence Banquet on Saturday night. As a group, the news staff, Brian Larson, Deanna Garcia, Kirk Siegler, Grace Hood and Erin O’Toole was singled out with a second place award in the Best Newscast category.

Reporter Kirk Siegler received a first place award in the Best Single Event News category for his coverage of last September’s wildfire in Boulder. Reporter Grace Hood and military investigative reporter Michael deYoanna won a first place award in the Best News Feature Report or Series category for a six month investigation into the way traumatic brain injuries are diagnosed at Ft. Carson.  Hood also won a second place award in the same category for a story profiling one man’s efforts to help disabled children compete in marathons.

The Colorado Broadcasters Association received 460 radio entries for the 2010 contest. Entries were judged by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. The annual awards are designed to honor individual and station excellence within the Colorado Broadcast industry.

As Director of Community Engagement for KUNC & The Colorado Sound, I look for ways to bring the programs and personalities you hear on the radio “out of the box” to engage and interact in live settings.
