From the Desk of President Neil Best: September 2012

KUNC Pres. Neil Best

Dear Friends,

An open invitation.

If it has been awhile since you last spent time listening to KUNC’s music here is an invitation to do so. KUNC has a rich musical tradition that over the years has entertained, inspired, educated, and brought smiles to many listeners.

Whether it was the KUNC broadcast of the Sixth String, Newsic, Moonlight Sonatas and Other Things, Diverse Music, Theatre 915, or Where We Wuz it has always been the goal of the staff to surprise and delight the audience who listens to KUNC for music.

Longtime listeners will recognize some of those titles and can certainly testify that our presentation of music on the station has always been evolving.  Even though the name remained the same, the Diverse Music of 1981 was very different from the Diverse Music heard in 2009.

Under the leadership of Content Director Kirk Mowers, Music Director Benji McPhail and Producer/Host Wendy Wham have been working very hard the past few months to create a new sound and feel that continues the traditions of music so important to the heritage and the future of KUNC.

To my ear they are doing a spectacular job. I find myself constantly surprised, enthralled, and yes, smiling as I listen to our music.

So for a few days lose the iPod, ditch the singular-focused stream, ignore the cookie cutter approach to music found elsewhere and listen to Wendy and Benji weekdays from 9-2.

I am pretty sure you will find yourself with your toes a tapping and a smile across your face.

Warm Regards,

President & CEO
