KUNC Newsroom Wins Associated Press, Local SPJ Awards

KUNC’s news staff has been recognized with five Associated Press Television-Radio Association awards including a first place for Best Coverage of an Ongoing Story for September's flooding in Northern Colorado.

Reporter Nathan Heffel received three awards including a first place in the Best Serious Feature category and a second place in the Best Light Feature category. He also won a first place in the Best Use of Sound category.

Reporter Grace Hood was recognized with a first place in the Best Investigative Reporting category.

KUNC competed against radio stations in 13 western states including Colorado. Entries were judged by AP members in Mississippi and Texas.

Heffel, Hood and arts reporter Carrie Saldo were also recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists’ Colorado Chapter for reporting work done in 2013 with a first and two third place awards. Previously, KUNC received a national Sigma Delta Chi award for excellence from the Society of Professional Journalists for Breaking News coverage of the September floods.
