From Neil Best's Desk: A Weekend Frontier Of Creativity, Storytelling And New Sounds

KUNC Pres. Neil Best

Beginning this weekend, July 12, artistic change is coming to weekends on KUNC. We are introducing eight engaging shows that offer tremendous creativity. From ground-breaking storytelling hours, to dynamic public affairs offerings, to the Colorado music scene, KUNC’s new weekend schedule will offer an even more vibrant listening experience whenever you choose to tune in.

As many of you know, KUNC was the first public station in Colorado to bring you many of the programs you now rely upon. The list is long and illustrious. It includes All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Marketplace, Car Talk, and Weekend Edition among many other programs that were heard first in Colorado on KUNC.

We continue our strong tradition of introducing our audience to a variety of public radio shows with our upcoming weekend schedule.

Will your favorite programs still be heard? The answer is mostly a yes.

Five hours in the current schedule which have been repeat broadcasts will be turned over to new programming. The second airing of Car Talk, A Prairie Home Companion, and a repeated hour of Weekend Edition will be changed to programs new to the KUNC schedule. In addition Marketplace Money is being discontinued in July by American Public Media. Finally, changes in our relationship with Public Radio International mean that KUNC no longer has access to Bob Edwards Weekend and Jazz After Hours. The old bromine that you have to break eggs to make an omelet certainly applies here. To continue the metaphor, the new weekend schedule at KUNC will provide some tasty morsels!

Another bromine in the broadcast world is that no broadcast schedule is perfect for every listener. That is absolutely true. At the same time so many members of the KUNC audience have consistently told us KUNC’s willingness to take chances and focus on creating the best listening experience possible is highly valued. I am confident you will find much in this schedule to excite you.

As always it is very helpful to me to have the opportunity to learn from conversations from our listeners and members. If you have thoughts and or concerns that you want to discuss please don’t hesitate to write or call. I would love to visit.

Warm Regards,

President & CEO
