From Neil Best's Desk: Expanding Our News Commitment

KUNC Pres. Neil Best

We think of spring as a time of growth. This spring certainly is a time of growth for KUNC's News Department. To allow our reporters the opportunity to focus on critical issues, we are now utilizing a "beat" system. This is a type of journalism long used by NPR, focusing on in-depth reporting on particular issues or topic areas over time.

Thanks to your support, KUNC now has the resources to create "beats" for our reporting and news service to the community.

Here is a look at our reporting staff and their beats:

Our newest addition to the reporting staff is Poncie Rutsch who just joined our team. Poncie comes to KUNC following a successful internship at the NPR Science Desk in Washington D.C. Her coverage focus in her new role will be science and diversity.

For the past several years, Luke Runyon has covered food, fuel, and field for KUNC as part of Harvest Public Media.

Bente Birkeland has been our longtime voice at the Colorado capitol covering the legislature.

Stephanie Paige Ogburn will be looking at issues of growth, demographics, and natural resources. Her background in working with High Country News in Paonia, Colorado and Climatewire make her a natural for her beat.

Stacy Nick is KUNC's reporter for Arts, Culture, and Music. Stacy came to KUNC from the Fort Collins Coloradoan and offers a wealth of knowledge about the arts and cultural communities across Northern Colorado.

Dan Boyce connects energy reporting from Colorado with KUNC partners in Wyoming and North Dakota through the Inside Energy collaboration.

Today it is a vastly different world from just 14 years ago when the KUNC News Department consisted of one full-time and one part-time position. Your continued investment makes the vitality of KUNC's reporting possible.

Thank you.

Neil
President & CEO
