From Neil Best's Desk: Need Some Help With Your Holiday Chit-Chat?
As the holiday season approaches, many of us will be spending time at dinner parties and other gatherings with friends.
With that in mind, I invite you to check out one of the new programs that we've added to our Saturday morning lineup, The Dinner Party Download, a fast and funny hour that will give you plenty to talk about at any gathering.
The Dinner Party Download calls itself "public radio's arts and leisure section." In every episode, you'll hear a joke to break the ice, hear a bit of history and get a cocktail recipe to go along with it, and hear playlist suggestions from a variety of musicians, from opera singers to rock stars.
Recent shows have featured guests like Al Pacino, Tony Bennett, Elvis Costello and Elizabeth Gilbert chatting with hosts Rico Gagliano and Brendan Francis Newnam. Those names might sound familiar to longtime KUNC listeners — both reported for Marketplace before creating The Dinner Party Download as a podcast, and they've been guests on The Splendid Table.
The Dinner Party Download follows Wait Wait… Don't Tell Me at 11 a.m. every Saturday. It might not make you the life of the party, but you'll have plenty of things to talk about.
