Get Involved: Horses Make Miracles

Horses Make Miracles

Horses Make Miracles is a nonprofit in Boulder County that helps people with emotional, physical and intellectual disabilities build confidence and boost their self-esteem through horse therapy.

Linda Raulino is the founder and director. With each person that comes to the farm, she sees the impact the horses leave on them.

“Equine-assisted activities and therapies is what we do,” said Raulino. “Our basic mission is to be able to supply folks with whatever they need, with the use of the horses as a teaching tool.”

Raulino says working with the horses and being in the pastures is relaxing for people and allows them to show courage and trust themselves without pressure. It’s a “move at your own pace” learning experience that allows the client to maintain a sense of control.

Horses Make Miracles help a number of people with equine-assisted therapies.

All the horses were donated. They are very patient with the riders, making the saddle a safe space for growth and healing. Raulino noted that volunteers find great purpose in helping the clients, but also fall in love with the horses -- and the horses fall in love with them.

“There are so many different opportunities for volunteers. They can work on our barn team and that involves the care and feeding of the horses,” said Raulino. “We need folks as side-walkers to walk alongside a rider that is maybe a little unbalanced or just starting out”
