From Neil Best's Desk: KUNC to Launch Daily News Magazine This Fall
In this space, I have shared with you our concerns about the future of journalism in our country. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than half the jobs in the news industry have gone away in the last 15 years.
Thanks to your support, KUNC is not part of that trend. Rather in the last 18 years, we have been able to grow from a newsroom with 1 and a half positions to today’s vibrant newsroom with 17 reporters, editors and hosts. We continue to develop the resources necessary to ensure quality, in-depth journalism remains accessible in northern Colorado.
This vital reporting is available in broadcast form as part of the NPR newsmagazines and digitally. KUNC has also packaged critical reporting from the newsroom into Colorado Edition, offered as a podcast and broadcasted on Sunday evenings.
I am pleased to share with you that we are working on expanding the scope of Colorado Edition to provide a daily weekday news magazine, featuring original reporting from the KUNC newsroom on the issues vital to all of us. For the next several months we will be working on concepts for the programming, developing content strategies, staffing and probably a thousand other details.
Our goal is to launch Colorado Edition as a daily newsmagazine this Fall. As we develop our plans, we will keep you updated in this space.
As always, I welcome your thoughts. Reach me at email@example.com or call 970-350-0806.
