Get Involved: Grand Family Coalition
Grand Family Coalition is a non-profit network of grandparents and other “kinship providers”, families in which children are being raised by family or adults other than their parents. The organization is dedicated to promoting the unity of “kin families” by creating a space where families and services connect.
Through support groups and events, Grand Family Coalition provides a social safety net for kin-families in Northern Colorado. GFC seeks volunteers to staff special events, provide youth support, and help with administrative tasks.
“Every new family that comes to me, they’re in tears, they’re distraught, they’re in crisis,” says executive director Gail Engel. “By coming to us, they connect with another grandparent who has been there and done that, and they can say ‘it’s going to be okay’.”
Get Involved Colorado is a series that highlights nonprofit organizations across the state that are looking for volunteers. If you know of an organization that needs an extra set of hands and volunteers with passionate hearts, contact host/producer Karlie Huckels at firstname.lastname@example.org.
