The remains of four veterans were buried in Colorado Springs, marking the official opening of the Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
The Gazette reports the cremated remains of a Marine, sailor, airman and soldier were laid to rest Thursday at the cemetery that took two decades to create.
Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Charles Joyner, Army Pfc. James Grant, Navy Seaman Joseph Romery and Marine Corps Master Sgt. Kurt Krause were honored in the cemetery's inaugural burial.
Cemetery director Paul LaGrange says 300 veterans are in the process of seeking burial. Another 100 families have asked for remains to be moved to Colorado Springs from the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
Any veteran who served honorably can be buried in the national cemetery.
