Northeast Colorado Braces For Another Blizzard

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for northeast Colorado, including the Denver metro area, effective noon Wednesday to noon Thursday.

Commuters along the northern Front Range can expect to wake up to mild, dry and warm conditions. Around noon, a large cold front will hit northern Colorado. Afternoon rain and then snow are expected going into Wednesday night.

National Weather Service meteorologist Paul Schlatter said this system isn't predicted to be as bad as the bomb cyclone that hit back in March.

"The winds won't be quite as strong, but they are still going to wreak havoc, combined with heavy snow, leading to really challenging travel conditions," said Schlatter. "And really east of Interstate 25 is where we expect the wind and the snow to be the strongest for Wednesday afternoon."

Winter storm warnings are posted for surrounding areas, including Boulder, Estes Park, Steamboat Springs, Vail and Aspen. Some mountain areas could receive a foot or more of snow.

The storm comes after a blizzard struck much of the same area of the state last month.
