Democrats Pick Charlotte As 2012 Convention Site

"Charlotte has won the 2012 Democratic National Convention," the local Observer writes. "First Lady Michelle Obama announced the choice this morning in an email to members of the Democratic National Committee."

It will be the first time North Carolina has hosted one of the major nominating conventions.

Republicans will gather in Tampa.
