Failure to Pass FAA Bill Likely to Impact Colorado Airport

The failure to pass a bill extending the Federal Aviation Administration’s operating authority on Friday will have a direct impact on improvements at one Colorado airport.

The Director of the Fort Collins/Loveland Airport must decide this week whether or not to move forward with maintenance to the facilities only runway. But the decision may have already been made for him by Congress.

“This is no way to run the best aviation system in the world,” says U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

He blasted lawmakers on Monday saying they are hurting the overall economy and middle-class families who are now out of work because of their inaction. “The fact that Congress can’t work this out is exactly why the American people are fed up with Washington.”

The runway upgrades in Larimer County are dependent on nearly $7 million that has already been approved in the House. But the Senate’s failure to pass the bill has resulted in stop work orders at airports nationwide that have already started improvement projects.

The Fort Collins/Loveland Airport project will likely have to be pushed into next year.
