The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Wednesday it’s reimbursing the state for 75% of the cost of the 2010 Fourmile Canyon and Reservoir road fires.
The agency is contributing more than 3 million dollars to the state’s Forest Service. Colorado Senator Mark Udall says the fires were enormously expensive and damaging and as the communities continue to recover, FEMA will be covering a share of the costs for the disasters.

“It’s a reminder that the federal government can play an important role in protecting our people and our national security and our national interest, and I commend the federal government and FEMA for the good work they do to keep us safe.”

Adding ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’, Udall says he’ll continue to arm Coloradans with information about how they can take action to prevent future wildfires.

The 2010 Fourmile canyon fire in the heavily wooded canyons west of Boulder destroyed 168 homes and was the most destructive wildfire in Colorado’s recorded history.
