Environmental Groups Oppose Governor's Plan to Save Energy Office

KUNC

There are fears that the Governor’s Energy Office, which currently promotes renewable and clean energy, could soon be a thing of the past.

Federal funding for the office runs out this year, and a bill backed by Governor John Hickenlooper to come up with more money, and broaden its mission, faces opposition from the environmental community. KUNC’s Bente Birkeland has more from the state capitol.

Bente Birkeland is an award-winning journalist who joined Colorado Public Radio in August 2018 after a decade of reporting on the Colorado state capitol for the Rocky Mountain Community Radio collaborative and KUNC. In 2017, Bente was named Colorado Journalist of the Year by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), and she was awarded with a National Investigative Reporting Award by SPJ a year later.
