Bennet Bill Would Study Other Than Honorable Discharges

Colorado Springs Gazette

Last spring, the Colorado Springs Gazette investigated the connection between war wounds, military misconduct and other-than-honorable or bad conduct discharges. Now Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet wants to officially study the topic.

Bennet introduced a bill Thursday asking for the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to look at whether service members are being discharged for conduct related to war wounds like post traumatic stress disorder.

An other-than-honorable discharge can sometimes result in loss of military medical benefits—a problem for service members coping with mental or physical health issues.

The bill would require passage in both the Senate and the House.
