Aurora Theater To Reopen After Mass Shooting

Algr

Cinemarkannounced today that it plans to reopen Century Aurora 16 Multiplex by next year. The theater has been closed since the mass shooting on July 20. During the midnight showing of the new Batman movie, a gunman killed 12 people and injured 58 others.

The City of Aurora requested public input last month concerning what should be done with the theater. In a letter to Cinemark from Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan said, “We believe that we are hearing, and indeed have heard for some time, a collective wish and desire for the theatre to re-open.”

Cinemark President and CEO TimWarner responded in a letter.

“As you know, the city of Aurora is important to us, individually and as a company. I will be our privilege to re-open the theater. We pledge to reconfigure the space and make the theater better than ever. We look forward to working with you about the best way to reopen the theater. We hope the theater will be ready by the beginning of the New Year."

Details on the reconfiguration of the theater have not yet been released.
