Members of Colorado’s congressional delegation are weighing in on the death of Osama bin Laden.

In a written statement, Senator Mark Udall (D) called bin Laden’s death “a major milestone in U.S. efforts to eradicate terrorism.”  Udall congratulated the military and intelligence communities and President Barack Obama, as well as special operations personnel who carried out the mission.

A statement from Congressman Mike Coffman (R) notes that while this “brings closure to the attack on 9-11, it will have nothing to do with ending the global war on terror.”  Coffman is urging Americans and others to be prepared for the possibility of stepped-up attacks against American targets in the wake of bin Laden’s death.

Also in a written statement, Congressman Ed Perlmutter (D) calls it a moment of justice, saying the U.S. took out the leader and symbol of Al Qaeda and the architect of 9-11.  Perlmutter praised military and special operations forces, the intelligence and homeland security communities, and the President.

Congressman Jared Polis (D) added “I salute President Obama, his national security team, the members of our Armed Forces, and the intelligence professionals who planned, carried out and accomplished this mission. In the struggle against the terrorists bin Laden led and inspired, this is a significant and momentous achievement. I hope this brings some measure of peace and justice to the families of those lost in the attacks of September 11.”
