Today on Colorado Edition: We break down the latest on the state budget, and the gradual re-opening of Rocky Mountain National Park at the end of May. We also hear about some of the Colorado companies making personal protective equipment. And, we explore contact tracing in our region and the perceived threat of the now infamous murder hornet.

Breaking Down The State’s Budget Forecast

On Tuesday, legislative economists presented a budget forecast to lawmakers, which showed a need to make big cuts to the state budget. KUNC’s Scott Franz joined us to discuss.

Checking In On The Colorado Businesses Making PPE

Dan Mika, a reporter for BizWest, joined us to talk about a few of the companies in Colorado who are manufacturing and assembling personal protective equipment, or PPE.

Contact Tracing In The Mountain West

The U.S. could need as many as 300,000 contact tracers to help us fight COVID-19. And as KUNC’s Rae Ellen Bichell reports, these new jobs could be an opportunity for some of the millions of Americans who’ve been laid off or furloughed.

Rocky Mountain National Park To Reopen May 27

Rocky Mountain National Park has announced that it will begin a phased re-opening on May 27. The park has been closed since March 21, after the town of Estes Park saw its first confirmed case of COVID-19, and the mayor requested the park close to visitors. KUNC’s Matt Bloom joined us to break down the news.

About That So-Called Murder Hornet…

You may have heard about the murder hornet by now. But according to a local entomologist, that hornet may not be as much of a threat as the front pages were making it out to be. KUNC’s Stacy Nick brings us that story. You can go deeper with Stacy’s story here.
