Progress in Washington on the debt limit discussion is achingly slow, but Colorado’s Senators agree on the solution.
Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) says recent movements toward a debt limit compromise by President Obama and the House and Senate leadership are encouraging. However, he says any deal that involves a short term solution would send the wrong message to the American people.
“I’m somebody who thinks you’ve got to go for four, four and a half trillion dollar combination of deficit reduction, which is revenue, strengthening entitlements and spending cuts.”
As much as Udall doesn’t like the short term option, it’s still an option, even for him. He says defaulting on the nation’s debt is not an option.
“If we can’t find either a short-term solution that lifts the debt ceiling while we continue negotiations, or a long term solution, shame on us.”
Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) also says he favors reaching a long-term solution rather than accepting a short-term compromise to address the deficit question.
