The Federal Emergency Management Agency says flood survivors in the nine designated counties hit by Colorado’s historic floods have until Nov. 14 to apply for assistance from the agency.

The FEMA funding will help individuals who need rental assistance, have emergency home repairs, or personal property loses that are directly related to the flood, said Micki Trost, a state representative for the department of Homeland Security. “But again, you can’t get that assistance if you don’t apply before Nov. 14.”

To date, more than 24,000 Coloradans have contacted FEMA for help. More than $40 million in individual assistance grants being approved.

Trost says Nov. 14 is also the deadline to apply for flood loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

“There are several different ways to apply,” said Trost. “You can apply by phone at 1-800-621-3362, and there are multi-lingual phone operators on that line.”

You can also apply online at disasterassistance.gov or on your smartphone at m.fema.gov.

The low interest loans from the SBA include home disaster, business disaster, or economic injury disaster loans. Trost adds the financial assistance will be provided quickly despite the ongoing government shutdown.
