Flooding Rains Wreak Havoc On State Highways, Interstates

Numerous closures of highways continue in areas of Denver and portions of Northern Colorado due to flooding, rock and mudslides. [Updated 5:55 p.m.]

The Colorado Department of transportation says with the amount of water saturation and possible unstable sections of state highways, motorists are to avoid travel in Boulder, Larimer, Weld, Jefferson, Clear Creek and Gilpin Counties unless absolutely necessary.

“Essential travel only folks,” says CDOT’s Amy Porter. “We recognize it’s an imposition, but your safety is paramount to us and we want to make sure that these roads are safe and we’ll keep you posted when they are.”

Porter says while roadways in those counties may appear passable, anything near water flows may have damage that can’t be seen with the naked eye.  Many highways and bridges will remain closed as a precaution until CDOT crews are able to determine if they’re structurally sound.

The latest closures as of 5:55 p.m. Friday afternoon. The following roadways are closed to traffic (both directions unless noted), with updated indicated by bold and italic font:
