Gov. Jared Polis Thinks Colorado Has Not Seen The Worst Of COVID-19

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis offered a stark warning on COVID-19 to the people of his state in an address Friday.

“Colorado hasn’t seen the worst of this. The United States hasn’t seen the worst of this. The world hasn’t seen the worst of this,” he said.

Polis has overseen the rollout of Colorado’s coronavirus response, issuing a “stay at home” order that saw the state’s 5.7 million residents’ travel restricted. Before the order was released, it was estimated that about half of the state’s population was practicing social distancing and staying at home. Now, that number is closer to 80 percent.

Polis also requested that President Trump make a “major disaster” declaration for Colorado, allowing the state to apply for additional federal aid. In addition, Polis waived the state’s tax on disposable plastic bags, citing their potential to limit the spread of coronavirus.
