KUNC's Colorado Edition: My Guitar Gently Weeps, Please Fix; There's A Hemp Product For That

On this week's Colorado Edition, we visit a hemp expo and a school for luthiers, while the Department of the Interior prepares to visit the West -- permanently.

First, after nearly 80 years of federal restrictions hemp — marijuana's non-intoxicating cousin — is making a comeback. Colorado is one of the country’s top producers of hemp after it was made legal in a handful of states in 2013. Although it’s still illegal to grow hemp in many others, farmers are hoping a bill to legalize it nationally might change that.

Then, we hear what people in Colorado and neighboring states think about Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke's plan to move thousands of federal employees out West to a yet-to-be-named location to manage water, public lands and energy.

Then we take a look at entertainment news: A new indoor music venue with a capacity of nearly 4,000 is coming to Denver's RiNo District. The plan is for it to open in summer 2019.

We also hear about a school for luthiers— people who repair and build guitars — in Denver. It may be an age-old craft, but it's still relevant today.

In our weekly film review, critic Howie Movshovitz says A Bag of Marbles treads a thin line. It's based on a true story about the Holocaust, and while it's not a comedy, it is at times lighthearted. But the film still brings a seriousness to the terrible events of World War II.

Music this week:

  • "Remember Me" by Kalatana
  • "Wash Out," "High School Snaps," and "Juparo" by Broke For Free
  • "Never Forget" by Peterloo Massacre
  • "Back Vibes Clean" by Kevin MacLeod
  • "Good Grief" by Ryan Little

KUNC's Colorado Edition is a weekly look at the top stories from our newsroom. It's available every Friday on our website, as well as on iTunesGoogle PlayStitcher or wherever (RSS) you get your podcasts.
