Today on Colorado Edition: we'll get a glimpse at the year ahead for Colorado's economy. Plus, we'll look way back at fossils in Colorado Springs. We'll also discuss KUNC's Matt Bloom's favorite reporting from the past year, and review the decade in Colorado's music scene.

Earlier this month, we brought you an economic forecast for Colorado for 2020 from Richard Wobbekind from the Leeds Business Research Division at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Today we are going to take a deeper look into the economic issues that will affect Northern Colorado in the new year with Chris Wood, editor and publisher of BizWest.

While looking forward can be exciting, it’s also exciting to look back into the past, especially when we can look way back. Up until a recent fossil discovery near Colorado Springs, it was hard to know for sure what life looked like after the extinction of the dinosaurs took place nearly 66 million years ago.

But now, thanks to that discovery, we have a much better picture — and we get the story straight from the two scientists who just published their findings in the journal Science. AliBudnerreports.

Year In Review

KUNC's Matt Bloom.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been catching up with the many KUNC reporters you hear on this show about their reporting in 2019. Today, we bring you the last conversation in that series. We spoke to KUNC’s Matt Bloom about his oil and gas reporting and a special video project he worked on just last month.

The Decade In Colorado Music

Before the year officially closes out, we thought we’d turn to the arts one last time and take a look back on the last 10 years in Colorado’s music scene. Who better to talk with us about that than Ron Bostwick; he hosts mornings at our sister station, the Colorado Sound.

Colorado Edition is made possible with support from our KUNC members. Thank you!

Our theme music was composed by Colorado musicians Briana Harris and Johnny Burroughs. Other music this week by Blue Dot Sessions:

  • “Lord Weasel” by Molerider

Colorado Edition is hosted by Erin O'Toole (@ErinOtoole1) and Henry Zimmerman (@HWZimmerman), and produced by Lily Tyson. The web was edited by digital editor Jackie Hai. Managing editor Brian Larson contributed to this episode.

KUNC's Colorado Edition is a daily news magazine taking an in-depth look at the issues and culture of Northern Colorado. It's available on our website, as well as on iTunesGoogle PlayStitcher, or wherever you get your podcasts. You can hear the show on KUNC's air, Monday through Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
