Today on Colorado Edition: We’ll look at SBA loans in Colorado. Plus, how cities are protecting the homeless from COVID-19. We’ll learn about what the shift to online learning has meant for college students, and we’ll hear from the creatives behind an unusual morning show.

Loans for Small Businesses

Applications for the Small Business Association Loan Program have been open for almost a week. KUNC’s Matt Bloom joined us to share what he's been hearing from small business owners applying for aid.

Homelessness and COVID-19

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, advocates for those experiencing homelessness — and people within the homeless community — say not enough is being done to protect this vulnerable population. In some ways, Colorado’s capital has lagged behind other Front Range cities in their response. KUNC’s Rae Solomon joined us to explore how cities are protecting the homeless.

Colleges Move Online

Colorado’s colleges and universities have moved to remote learning because of the COVID-19 outbreak. The online format works well for most classes, but what about those that are more hands on or involve interacting with others? As KUNC’s Stephanie Daniel reports, a teaching hospital is navigating how to remotely educate students — and serve its patients.

The Helpers: Online Show Spreads Joy

In times of distress a quote from Mr. Rogers often comes up: "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'

In a recurring segment we’re calling “The Helpers,” we talk with people doing just that — to find out more about what they’re doing and why. Today’s segment is on the Usher family from Fort Collins and their weekly online show, “Mornings with Maddie and Wake Up with Willow.”

"The Helpers" is produced by KUNC's Stacy Nick
