(Soundbite of music)

INSKEEP: This story involves Cisco Systems, which is expected to trim its payroll and could eliminate up to 10,000 jobs, according to Bloomberg News. The company dominates the global market for switchers and routers - equipment used to build Internet networks - but its market share has been slipping. According to Bloomberg, Cisco may cut as many as 7,000 jobs by August, and another 3,000 workers could leave with early retirement packages. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
