About Us
Welcome to KUNC Radio, where we bring you the best in news, music, and culture from Northern Colorado and beyond. Since our founding in 1967, we've provided our listeners with quality programming that informs, entertains, and enriches their lives.
At KUNC, our mission is simple: to serve the diverse communities of Northern Colorado by delivering independent, insightful, and inclusive journalism. We believe in the power of storytelling to foster understanding, empathy, and connection, and we're committed to producing content that reflects the voices and experiences of our region.
As a public radio station, we're driven by a commitment to public service and the principles of journalism. Our team of experienced reporters, producers, and hosts work tirelessly to bring you the latest news and analysis on issues that matter most to our community. Whether it's local politics, environmental issues, or cultural events, you can count on KUNC to keep you informed and engaged.
KUNC is owned and operated by Community Radio for Northern Colorado (CRNC), a 501 (c) 3, Colorado non-profit organization. CRNC is the parent organization to both KUNC and the non-commercial music service, The Colorado Sound. Both services aim to strengthen our communities by cultivating the mind and spirit - informing, inspiring, and entertaining.
Under the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, Congress created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to strengthen noncommercial public media nationwide by providing federal support most notably through annual Community Service Grants that helped local stations pay for the production and broadcast of public-service programming. For KUNC and The Colorado Sound CPB support in FY2025 was about 5% of our annual budget. We lost that federal support after Congress approved, and President Trump signed, the Rescissions Act on July 24, 2025, and CPB began winding down with final FY2025 grant payments concluding by the end of September 2025. We do not receive financial support from the State of Colorado. KUNC is now funded entirely by the community through member support, local business underwriting, and philanthropic partners.
