Weekend Audition: New Eye Candy From Beirut And Chris Smither's Latest

Beirut

Do you miss the ocean? Then the latest video sailing the seas with Beirut will solve your nautical longing. We’ve also got the latest from blues/folk singer Chris Smither.

Zach Condon, Albuquerque native and founder of the bandBeirut, loves diverse genres of music which is reflected in the lush music he creates.

Condon has traveled the world extensively, chronicling his adventures in Beirut's music. However, with The Rip Tide Condon took a different direction. "Written in isolation during a snowy upstate (New York) winter," the album is more reflective. While a departure from the previous, The Rip Tide remains true to the intermingling of different musical ideas for which the band is known.

If you need a respite from this weekend's heat, then this sumptuous new video for the title track will deliver.

ChrisSmither is back with a new album Hundred Dollar Valentine.  This is his twelfth record and like many of life’s finer things he gets better with age. Though this work is a bit quieter in places than some of his previous efforts, it is pure Smither.

An aside: among the great musicians joining Smither on this record is Boston Singer Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Kris Delmhorst who joins the group on cello

Chris Smither will be playing Daniels Hall at Swallow Hill on September 28th.
