Investigators Determine Cause of Estes Park Fire

T. Alan Hill

Larimer County officials say they have determined the cause of the Woodland Heights fire. The Estes Park Trail Gazette reports thatinvestigators believe a power line rubbing against a tree during gusty winds caused the blaze, which is now fully contained.

According to a press release from Larimer County officials 'do not believe the fire to be criminal in nature nor the result of a criminal act.'

The fire started June 23, charring 27.3 acres and destroying 22 homes.

[UPDATED 6/27/12]: The town of Estes Park will coordinate a recovery meeting for those directly affected by the fire. The meeting will be held  at 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 28 at Estes Park High School, 1600 Manford Ave. More information [.pdf] here.
