Today on Colorado Edition: We take a look at a recent national eviction moratorium. We’ll also learn about first-time gun owners and the recent extreme weather we’ve been having in Colorado. And we'll check in with a journalist biking around our region, covering the upcoming election.

National Eviction Moratorium

Gov. Jared Polis is extending an executive order set to expire this week that requires landlords to give tenants more notice before filing eviction proceedings. This comes days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a national eviction moratorium. To explain the impact of these measures, we spoke with Zach Neumann, founder of the COVID-19 Eviction Defense Project, a legal project aimed at helping Coloradans who can’t pay rent at this time.

First-Time Gun Owners

A record number of Americans have purchased guns this year, including Black Americans. KUNC's Leigh Paterson reports that incidents of violence against people of color have pushed some to purchase guns for the very first time. And a warning to our listeners — there are sounds of gunfire in this story.

Recent Weather In Colorado

As you’ve probably noticed, we've been having some interesting weather here recently. From extreme heat, with poor air quality and record-breaking fires, to snow — all in a matter of days. We spoke with Russ Schumacher, the state’s climatologist and director of the Colorado Climate Center, about the weather we’ve experienced lately.

Checking In With The Bicycling Journalist

Mountain West News Bureau Reporter Nate Hegyi is in the middle of a 900-mile bicycle trip across the western part of the country. He’ll end his trip in Greeley later this month, and along the way he’s talking with folks in our region ahead of the 2020 election. We last heard from Nate just before he embarked on his trip and he joined us again today with an update on how it’s going.
