A Colorado Springs Group is launching the Peak Military Care Network to make it easier for Colorado military personnel, veterans and their families to find the help they need.
The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments is setting up the online network. Robert McDonald, Executive Director of the council says the site will be a clearing house for all types of resources.
“Some of the services in the past have been a little disjointed, and the way we’ve set up this network is to have one door into the system. Because most service members or family members usually don’t have one issue to deal with -they may have a list of four or five.”
The network’s website links to providers in areas like healthcare, housing, employment and legal services. According to The Pikes Peak Courier View, the site will do more then just provide connections to area service providers:
One of the key features of the site is the drop box where anyone can create an account to store electronic copies of important documents. “This could be things like school transcripts for your children, medical records, military forms and other items that would be difficult to replace if they get lost,” Kate Hatten said. “The drop box is secure and password protected. It can be accessed anywhere in the world and you don't have to be connected to the military to use it.” Other features include pages of medical information on such things as posttraumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries and depression, for example.
The site will also allow individual service providers to see what other groups are doing. There are also projects in the works to help veterans offline.
