There are only three statewide ballot questions facing voters this November. But when it comes to electing a president, Coloradans have plenty to choose from.
16 candidates [.pdf] are listed on the ballot including a spot for a write-in. Even with so many names, Colorado Statesman publisher Jody Hope Strogoff says it shouldn’t impact President Obama or Mitt Romney’s chances of winning the state.
“But you never know. This is a swing state. And where every vote counts especially in Colorado it potentially could make a difference. But I don’t think that the major campaigns are threatened by it,” says Strogoff.
Colorado officially recognizes 5 parties including the Democratic, Republican, Constitution, Green and Libertarian Parties, meaning those candidates automatically make the ballot.
The remaining 11 candidates are on the ballot because they each paid a $500 fee by the August 8th deadline. The state also had 16 candidates for president on the 2008 election ballot.
