Colorado Edition: Model Behavior

Today on Colorado Edition: We get an update on the migratory bird deaths across the Southwest. We’ll also learn more about metropolitan districts in Northern Colorado and we’ll hear the latest on a new state plan to transform Colorado’s behavioral health system. Plus, we look at new COVID-19 modeling.

COVID-19 Modeling

The latest modeling report for COVID-19 in Colorado released earlier this month shows that although colleges and universities are seeing cases rise, hospitalizations have been decreasing and the relative number of infectious individuals in the state is low.

We spoke with Elizabeth Carlton, associate professor of environmental and occupational health at the Colorado School of Public Health, to dig deeper into the current state of the coronavirus and how public health experts use data to make projections about the future.

A New Plan For Behavioral Health Care

Colorado is out with a new plan to address behavioral health care across the state. The blueprint was created by the Behavioral Health Task Force. KUNC’s Stephanie Daniel joined us to break down what’s in the new plan.

And if you or someone you know needs behavioral health services, call Colorado Crisis Services at 1-844-493-8255.

Metropolitan Districts In Greeley

The city of Greeley has moved one step closer to approving eight metropolitan districts, which are quasi-governmental entities that have taxing authority. This comes just months after the city of Fort Collins issued a moratorium on the creation of new metro districts. BizWest’s Ken Amundson joined us to talk through what it could mean for Greeley. You can read his reporting on the issue here.

Migratory Bird Deaths

Last week on the program, Zach Hutchinson from Audobon Rockies joined us to talk about the migratory bird deaths that have been taking place across the Southwest. Today, we connected with him again for an update, now that we’ve gotten some more information about what’s going on.
