Kaskaskia, Ill., No Longer State's Smallest Town

RENEE MONTAGNE, host:

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne. In the past 10 years, Kaskaskia, Illinois experienced a population boom, growing by 55 percent, according to the Census. That's right. Kaskaskia gained five residents, bringing its total population to 14. Exciting but also bittersweet. The new population numbers mean that Kaskaskia has lost its long-held record as the smallest town in the state. Illinois newest smallest population: Valley City, with 13.
