Legend says railroad worker John Henry hammered faster than a steam drill but died from the effort. Computers have outplayed chess masters. But now we can report a triumph for the human spirit. The Big Y supermarket chain will phase out self-service checkout lanes. Machines were meant to speed service and save money, but checkout times increased.
