The Blues Music Awards are coming up Thursday in Memphis, Tennessee. That’s where you’d expect those awards to be held. But the event has ties to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Eight nominations are directly linked to a hefty, chain-smoking Norwegian from San Jose. Rachael Myrow ( @rachaelmyrow) of Here & Now contributor KQED reports.
